This emerging technology is being utilized to detect internal transformer problems that may be developing because of loosening in the core/coil assembly. When used in combination with Dissolved Gas in Oil analysis, early detection of this anomaly can be possible. This diagnostic is performed with a portable battery powered device that can display a response frequency wave form of the vibration of the transformer core assembly. There are other frequency response analysis devices being utilized in the industry today. However, their application often requires the equipment to be de-energized before performing the tests. Our method allows us to test equipment while it is energized and has been successful in detecting core looseness. Internal examination has revealed loose core blocking on several occasions. |
